China's number of charging infrastructure facilities nearly doubled in 2022, following the country's commitment to boosting the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry. The cumulative number of charging infrastructure facilities nationwide has hit 5.2 million.

Some 650,000 public-charging points for electric vehicles were added last year, bringing the total to 1.8 million units. A total of 1.9 million private charging facilities were installed in 2022, and these facilities topped 3.4 million units.

Beijing has 1,048 important artificial intelligence (AI) companies as of October 2022, accounting for 29 percent of the national total, based on a report on the city's AI development. The city has more than 40,000 professionals in core AI technologies and has produced the most published papers on AI in the country.

The number of smart factories and digitalized workshops in Beijing reached 36 and 47, respectively, in 2022.

In 2023, Beijing will guide enterprises, research institutes, open-source communities, and others to collaborate to achieve core AI technology innovation. It will also support top firms in creating ChatGPT-style large models to strive for new breakthroughs in the development of the AI industry, according to the report.

China's renewable energy industry continued to lead globally in 2022. China-made photovoltaic modules, wind turbines, gearboxes, and other key components accounted for 70 percent of the global market share last year, according to the National Energy Administration press conference.

In 2022, China's renewable energy generation was equivalent to a reduction of 2.26 billion tonnes of domestic carbon dioxide emissions. China's exports of wind power and photovoltaic products helped other countries reduce emissions by approximately 573 million tonnes.

The two figures added up to 2.83 billion tonnes of emissions, or about 41 percent of the world's total carbon emissions reduction converted from renewable energy.
