The 136th Canton Fair Reaches New Heights with Record Overseas Attendance

The 136th Canton Fair concluded with a historic high in international participation, solidifying its role in promoting high-quality global trade and China’s international market openness. With 253,000 overseas buyers from 214 countries, the Canton Fair saw a 2.8% increase from the previous session, surpassing the 250,000 mark for the first time. Notably, the “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI) countries contributed over 60% of attendees, with 165,000 buyers—a 3.7% increase.

Record Participation and Strategic Trade Growth

This session marked significant interest from Western markets. Buyers from Europe, the United States, and Canada surged, with 54,000 attendees—an 8.2% rise. Notably, 22,000 buyers came from the European Union (up 22.5%), and 8,919 from the United States (up 5.2%). The Fair attracted 146 industry organizations and 308 multinational sourcing giants, reflecting the Fair’s enhanced appeal to major global buyers.

“The 136th Canton Fair achieved remarkable milestones,” noted a Canton Fair official, “showcasing our commitment to quality, innovation, and expanding global partnerships.”

Strong Demand for Innovative and Eco-Friendly Products

With over 1.15 million new products unveiled, the Fair highlighted China’s advancements in digitalization, intelligent solutions, and green technology. These offerings gained traction among international buyers, particularly those seeking high-tech, sustainable solutions.

The “Belt and Road” countries drove much of the demand, with BRI country deals accounting for over half of the total export turnover, which reached USD 24.95 billion—a 1% increase from the previous session.

International Pavilion Draws Global Businesses

The Fair’s International Pavilion welcomed 730 companies from 49 countries, with 65.5% representing BRI nations and 33% from Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) member countries. Businesses from Turkey, South Korea, and Egypt shared positive outcomes, expressing enthusiasm to return next year. “The Canton Fair offers an unrivaled platform for business growth and collaboration with Chinese enterprises,” shared one Turkish exhibitor.

Upcoming 137th Canton Fair in 2025

With its growing influence and expanding global partnerships, the Canton Fair sets the stage for its 137th session, slated for April 15 to May 5, 2025, in Guangzhou. This event will continue to serve as a vital platform for international trade and cooperation, further advancing China’s open market strategy.
