Hong Kong International Optical Fair 2024 Highlights Innovations in Eyewear

32nd Hong Kong International Optical Fair

The 32nd Hong Kong International Optical Fair is underway, bringing together over 700 exhibitors from 17 countries and regions. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in partnership with the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA), the fair is themed “Seeing is Believing,” highlighting the fusion of technology, fashion, and sustainability in the optical industry. This year, the fair takes place from November 6 to 8 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), with a hybrid EXHIBITION+ format, allowing online access until November 15.

A Global Platform for Eyewear Innovation and Collaboration

Sophia Chong, Acting Executive Director of HKTDC, emphasized the significance of the fair as a hub for global eyewear suppliers to showcase cutting-edge products and foster business connections. “This platform brings together industry leaders and fosters opportunities for international collaboration,” Chong stated. To enhance networking, HKTDC has organized 80 buying missions from 45 countries, including representatives from Best Group (China), Chilli Beans (Brazil), Foptics (Singapore), and Euro Vision (USA).

Showcasing Diverse Global Brands

The fair features exhibitors from Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East, including France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Türkiye. The event also sees the return of exhibitors from Australia and Malaysia. This diverse participation underscores Hong Kong’s role as a leading international trade hub for the optical industry.

Group pavilions from Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and other regions showcase top products from major cities like Shenzhen and Jiangxi, providing exhibitors with networking opportunities and access to emerging markets.

Brand Name Gallery: Spotlight on World-Class Eyewear

The Brand Name Gallery is a key attraction, featuring over 200 global brands known for innovative design and quality craftsmanship. Some highlighted brands include:

  • Karavan (France): Boldly colored, handcrafted metal and acetate frames.
  • TAVAT (Italy): The SoupCan series, with mixed-material frames that undergo over 100 production steps.
  • Miyamoto Optical (Japan): Weighted temple tips for balanced frames, winner of Japan’s Functional and Technical awards.
  • Art Optical (Hong Kong): Lightweight frames with enhanced durability and scratch-resistant lenses.
  • Solos Technology Limited (Hong Kong): The Solos AirGo™ V smart eyewear range, featuring integrated cameras and ChatGPT-4 functionality.

New Thematic Labels for Streamlined Procurement

This year’s fair introduces three special labels to assist buyers in identifying products:

  1. Smart Ageing Products
  2. Green Solution Suppliers
  3. Smart Eyewear

Notable exhibitors include:

  • Eleung Limited: Eco-friendly eyewear frames made from BioCell material.
  • Wenzhou Skysea: Compact, foldable, anti-blue light reading glasses.
  • Chongqing Deding Optical Technology: Ultra-thin smart glasses with Bluetooth 5.2 and magnetic induction switch.

Addressing Global Eye Health Needs: Optometry Symposiums and Events

The 22nd Hong Kong International Optometric Symposium on November 7 will focus on myopia control and prevention. Organized with the Hong Kong Optometric Association and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, it features esteemed speakers like Dr. Simon Tang from the Hong Kong Hospital Authority and Professor Ian Morgan from the Australian National University. Additionally, the inaugural Asia-Pacific Eye Health Summit on November 8 will discuss eye health trends in the Greater Bay Area.

Promoting Hong Kong’s Creative Talent

To support local creativity, the 24th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition is held under the theme “Be Bold.” Award-winning and finalist designs will be showcased throughout the fair, celebrating the artistic talent and innovation in Hong Kong’s eyewear industry. The fair also introduces the Green Booth Design Award, encouraging exhibitors to incorporate sustainable practices into booth designs.

Hybrid EXHIBITION+ Model Extends Opportunities

The EXHIBITION+ model combines online and offline formats, allowing global buyers to participate in real-time and remotely. Using the Click2Match platform, buyers and exhibitors can engage in online networking, access product information, and save their favorite exhibitors. This online accessibility remains open until November 15, extending networking and procurement opportunities.
