On October 19, the International Symposium on Sustainable Development was held in Beijing, bringing together over 30 international experts and more than 300 domestic scholars. Hosted by the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (CSES), Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the Beijing International Exchange Association Sustainable Development Committee, the symposium focused on promoting ecological civilization and global sustainable development.
The event aimed to create a high-level global exchange platform centered around the themes of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, peaceful coexistence among people, and inner peace within individuals. The symposium explored strategies for global sustainability, encouraging collective action and fostering a global consensus on ecological issues.
Keynote Addresses from Global Leaders
Liu Zhenmin, China’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, and prominent figures like Jan Eliasson, former Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, and Erik Solheim, President of the Green Belt and Road Institute, delivered video addresses, emphasizing the urgency of international cooperation on sustainable development.
Anders Wijkman, Honorary President of the Club of Rome, addressed the audience, stressing the need for new approaches to resource management and ecological balance. The event was moderated by Xia Zuyi, Vice President and Secretary-General of the CSES.
In-Depth Discussions on Sustainable Futures
The symposium focused on two main topics: "Ecological Civilization—Towards a Future of Harmonious Coexistence Between Humans and Nature" and "Synergistic Coexistence—Towards a New Era of Human Civilization." Experts discussed sustainable strategies for balancing development with ecological preservation, examining how society can transition toward a greener, more sustainable future.

The event featured five thematic panel sessions on critical issues like climate change, eco-communities, marine development, sustainable development theories, and artificial intelligence.
