CENTRESTAGE, Asia’s premier fashion showcase organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), successfully wrapped up on September 7. The highlight of the event was the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2024 (YDC), where 10 local designers wowed the audience with their innovative collections. With the theme “To Be Seen,” YDC 2024 showcased the next generation of Hong Kong fashion talent, pushing creative boundaries and redefining modern fashion.

YDC 2024: Celebrating Emerging Talent

The YDC 2024 grand finale celebrated Hong Kong’s creative talent with a standout fashion show, featuring celebrity appearances from Panther Chan, Kaho Hung, Moon Tang, and more. After a rigorous judging process, four winners were selected from the 10 finalists, with Tiger Chung taking the top prize for his bold collection “Rager”, inspired by the energy of music festivals.

Tiger Chung’s Champion win earned him a cash prize of HK$60,000, an overseas study trip sponsored by Fang Brothers Knitting Ltd., and a CASETiFY e-Gift Card worth HK$5,000. The winning collection will also be available for sale online and at CASETiFY stores in Hong Kong. Other standout winners included K Ng, who won the Excellence Award, and Yoyo Chan, who took home both the Best Art Direction Award and the My Favourite Collection Award, decided by public vote.

Judges Applaud Designers’ Creativity

The YDC 2024 judging panel included renowned fashion experts such as Katherine Fang, Chairlady of the HKTDC Garment Advisory Committee, and Masayuki Ino, founder of the Japanese fashion brand doublet. The judges praised the high standard of entries, with Masayuki Ino expressing his admiration for the boldness and creativity of the designs presented on the runway.

Reflecting on the event, Ino said, “The designs are fantastic. Seeing them on the runway gave me a new perspective, and I’m excited to witness the incredible talent of Hong Kong’s next generation of designers.”

MINI Collaborates with YDC Alumni for Exclusive Collection

As a major sponsor of YDC for the eighth consecutive year, MINI HK teamed up with two YDC alumni, Johnson Chong and Kinyan Lam, to present a fashion collection inspired by MINI’s latest models, the MINI Cooper and MINI Aceman. The collaboration brought together the spirit of urban exploration and minimalist design. The collection was unveiled alongside a performance by Panther Chan, showcasing MINI’s new approach to sustainability and contemporary fashion.

CENTRESTAGE 2024 not only provided a platform for rising designers but also highlighted Hong Kong’s position as a creative hub for fashion innovation. With over 250 brands participating and thousands of visitors, the event underscored the city’s vibrant fashion scene and its potential to influence global trends.
