Shanghai Launches International Jewelry Fashion Theme Month to Boost Global Hub Status

Share the Post:

The First International Jewelry Fashion Theme Month and the 2025 Shanghai Haute Couture Week began on October 30, 2025, in Shanghai’s Grand Yuyuan Cultural Area. This event follows the establishment of the Shanghai International Jewelry & Style District, highlighting efforts to position Shanghai as a key player in the global jewelry and fashion industries. The initiative aims to foster integration across sectors and attract international attention through a series of activities and partnerships.

Key Developments and Collaborations

At the opening ceremony, the official logo for the Shanghai International Jewelry & Style District was unveiled, and six expert members from academia, art, fashion, and media were appointed to an advisory panel. Representatives from 15 brands, including those in fine gold, precious gems, and emerging design, participated in a key acceptance ceremony, symbolizing new cooperative ties. Cooperation agreements were signed with Zijin Mining Group Gold & Jewelry Co., Ltd. and the Gem & Jewelry Trade Association of China, focusing on enhancing industry integration and creating platforms for exhibition and collaboration.

The event is seen as a step toward achieving a clustering effect in the district, integrating elements like gold and jewelry, haute couture, and consumer experiences. The Grand Yuyuan area, a historic center for jewelry in China, is being revitalized to combine cultural heritage with modern commercial and design resources, drawing on its annual visitor flow of over 40 million to drive market potential.

Strategic Importance and Industry Context

The Shanghai International Jewelry & Style District was officially inaugurated in May 2025 to support Shanghai’s goals of becoming an international consumption hub and a global leader in the jewelry industry. Yuyuan Inc., a key player based in Huangpu District and part of Fosun’s fashion portfolio, is central to developing the Grand Yuyuan Cultural Area as the district’s core. The area features a dual-core spatial layout with Yuyuan Tourist Mart and BFC (Bund Finance Center), promoting cross-sector integration and housing a mix of domestic and international brands, along with professional services like testing and vocational training.

According to industry observers, the gold market in China is experiencing strong momentum in both investment and consumption, making this development timely. The Grand Yuyuan area leverages its cultural and historical significance in gold trading, combined with tourism and art, to create a cycle from cultural experiences to consumer engagement. Yuyuan Inc.’s ownership of heritage brands such as Lao Miao and international names like DJULA positions it to benefit from policy support, enabling advancements in brand upgrading, resource integration, and global outreach.

Future Initiatives and Global Ambitions

During the theme month, activities include new store openings, fashion shows, and exclusive shopping events, such as launches by Lao Miao and CIGALONG at BFC, which blend traditional Chinese aesthetics with contemporary design. Collaborations with luxury brands for salons aim to set trends in haute jewelry. The district plans to implement six key initiatives covering areas like exhibition promotion, investment attraction, and innovation empowerment, with the goal of establishing Shanghai as a global benchmark in jewelry fashion, influencing the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
