7th Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT)

The Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT) has once again cemented its status as a premier platform for global economic collaboration, attracting over 1,300 enterprises from 39 countries and regions to Chongqing. The seventh edition of the fair, themed “New Western China, New Manufacturing, New Services,” underscores the region’s growing influence in trade, technology, and sustainable development.

A Hub for Global Innovation and Green Technology

Among the standout innovations unveiled at WCIFIT was Lingjie, the world’s first megawatt-class supercharging heavy-duty truck, developed through a partnership between Qingling Motors and Huawei Digital Power. This breakthrough in green logistics combines ultra-fast charging with smart connectivity, signaling a transformative shift toward electrification in heavy-duty transport.

The fair also spotlighted Chongqing’s role as a nexus for high-quality development, with participation from 56 Chinese central state-owned enterprises, 47 Fortune Global 500 companies, and 286 leading private firms. The event’s focus on new quality productive forces reflects China’s broader push for industrial modernization and sustainable growth.

Thailand, Sichuan, and Hong Kong Take Center Stage

This year’s edition welcomed Thailand as the guest country of honor, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. Dr. Lalivan Karnchanachari, Vice Minister of Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized opportunities for deeper collaboration in high value-added manufacturing, supply chains, and SME development.

Meanwhile, Sichuan Province continued its role as the permanent guest province, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region joined as the guest city of honor, reinforcing cross-regional economic ties.

Major Deals and Future-Focused Investments

The opening ceremony saw the signing of investment agreements worth over 200 billion yuan (approximately $27.6 billion USD), with Chongqing’s districts securing more than 100 billion yuan in commitments. Notably, 75% of the investments are earmarked for manufacturing and modern services, aligning with the fair’s emphasis on industrial advancement.

A Hybrid Experience: Onsite and Online Engagement

Spanning 110,000 square meters across nine exhibition halls, WCIFIT 2025 features three core sections: comprehensive image, international and regional cooperation, and modern industry. For the first time, a virtual exhibition hall extends access to global audiences, ensuring broader participation.

The event’s 29 themed activities delve into critical sectors like productive services, foreign investment, and international trade, offering a dynamic forum for public and private sector dialogue.

As WCIFIT continues to bridge global markets with Western China’s economic ambitions, this year’s fair reaffirms the region’s pivotal role in shaping the future of trade and innovation.
