Guiyang is leading a new wave of industrialization, driving manufacturing transformation and upgrading while positioning itself as a strategic hub for innovation. Focused on “industrial structure optimization with a focus on industries,” Guiyang has developed four major industrial bases to strengthen its industrial economy as a key driver of growth. With its renewable energy advantages, Guiyang has rapidly become a national hub for new-energy power batteries and materials development, significantly boosting its economy.
CATL Production Base: Pioneering “Zero Carbon” Manufacturing
In October 2023, the CATL (Guizhou) New Energy Power and Energy Storage Battery Production Base began operations in the Gui’an New Area. The facility, built to “lighthouse + zero carbon factory” standards, features highly automated, high-speed, and flexible production lines with an annual capacity of 30 GWh. Upon reaching full capacity, the base is expected to achieve an annual output value of 15 billion yuan. In the first half of 2024 alone, the base recorded an industrial output value of 618 million yuan, with projections of 2 billion yuan for the full year.
Chery’s Digital NEV Factory: Driving Innovation
The Chery (Guizhou) Industrial Base is a standout in the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector, highlighted by the “CHEVOO” new-generation light truck KL71 project, currently undergoing rigorous road tests. The factory features advanced pressing, welding, painting, and assembly lines, supported by an R&D lab and an all-electric truck production line. This “digital intelligent” facility not only streamlines NEV production but also strengthens vehicle manufacturing supply chains, reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
BYD’s Blade Battery Production: Gui’an FinDreams Project
BYD’s Gui’an FinDreams Battery Project has emerged as a major player in Guiyang’s power battery ecosystem. Located in Longshan Industrial Park, the facility operates four automated production lines, producing BYD’s industry-renowned “blade batteries.” The factory’s impressive daily output includes 300 battery packs and 40,000 cells, reinforcing Guiyang’s position as a leader in battery innovation.
The “Four Bases” Strategy: Boosting Industrial Growth
Guiyang’s “four bases” initiative encompasses:
- New Energy Vehicles and Battery Materials Production Base
- Resource Deep-Processing Base
- Computing Power Assurance Base
- Industrial Backup Base
These bases are instrumental in supporting the NEV and battery materials sectors, electronic information manufacturing, and advanced equipment industries. In the first three quarters of 2024, the added value of Guiyang’s industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 11%, contributing 39.4% to the city’s economic growth.
A Thriving Hub for Innovation
Guiyang’s focus on renewable energy and high-tech manufacturing is shaping it into a national leader in green industrialization. With cutting-edge facilities like CATL, Chery, and BYD’s FinDreams, the city is setting a benchmark for industrial development that aligns with global sustainability goals.
