China Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Wins Gold Award

The China Pavilion was awarded the Gold Award for Exhibition Design in the Self-Built Pavilions category at Expo 2025 Osaka, as announced during the awards ceremony on October 12. This recognition, presented by the International Exhibitions Bureau, represents the first time China has secured a gold award at a comprehensive overseas World Expo. The event featured participation from 158 countries and regions, with awards determined by an international jury of experts in exposition, architecture, exhibition, and art.

Competitive Awards and International Recognition

The awards at Expo 2025 Osaka were categorized based on pavilion size and type, focusing on aspects such as exhibition design, architecture, and landscape, and theme development. The category for large self-built pavilions is historically the most competitive and prestigious. In this category, the China Pavilion excelled in exhibition design, while the Saudi Arabia Pavilion and Italy Pavilion received gold awards for architecture and landscape and theme development, respectively. This highlights the intense global competition and China’s standout performance in design innovation.

China’s Pavilion Design and Theme

Organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade on behalf of the Chinese government, the China Pavilion covered approximately 3,500 square meters, making it one of the largest foreign self-built pavilions at the expo. Under the theme “Building a Community of Life for Man and Nature—Future Society of Green Development,” the exhibition was structured into three chapters: “Harmony between Humanity and Nature,” “Green Mountains and Clear Waters,” and “Endless Vitality.” It emphasized China’s ecological wisdom spanning over 5,000 years and showcased the country’s philosophy and achievements in green development, aligning with global cooperation for a shared future.

Visitor Engagement and Global Impact

Throughout Expo 2025 Osaka, the China Pavilion recorded over 1.9 million visitors, averaging more than 10,000 daily. Attendees included more than 280 dignitaries and prominent figures from over 90 countries and regions, as well as nearly 100 Japanese political leaders and former officials who participated in events at the pavilion. Consistently ranking among the most visited and popular national pavilions, this high level of engagement underscores China’s growing influence in international exhibitions and its role in promoting sustainable development and cultural exchange on the global stage.
