The pulse of Asian fashion beat strongly in Hong Kong this week as the city’s premier style showcase, CENTRESTAGE, opened with a spectacular runway show celebrating a decade of local design talent. The Fashion Hong Kong Runway Show set the tone for the four-day extravaganza, featuring the visionary collections of four homegrown brands that masterfully blended narrative, heritage, and avant-garde aesthetics.
A Decade of Design: Seen and Felt
Marking the 10th anniversary of the Fashion Hong Kong initiative, this year’s event adopted a reflective and poignant theme: “A Decade in Design: What is Seen? What is Felt?”. This concept challenged the participating designers to move beyond the visual and create collections that resonate on a deeper, emotional level. The four brands—ANGUS TSUI, ARTY:ACTIVE, IP AXIS INDUSTRIAL STUDIO, and selfFab.—rose to the occasion, presenting personal stories and cultural commentary through their unique sartorial lenses.
The show drew an enthusiastic response from a packed audience of industry insiders, celebrities, and fashion aficionados, underscoring Hong Kong’s growing influence on the global fashion map.
The Designers and Their Destinations
The opening runway was a journey through four distinct creative universes, each exploring the future of fashion from a different angle.
ANGUS TSUI: A Decade of Creating Otherworldly Universe in Fashion
Celebrating his own brand’s 10-year milestone, Angus Tsui presented a retrospective that was anything but nostalgic. The collection revisited iconic designs from past seasons, reengineering them with bold new techniques. Concluding his long-running “Xeno” narrative on space colonization, Tsui delivered a visual spectacle of otherworldly aesthetics that fused the past with a profoundly futuristic vision.
ARTY:ACTIVE: Pulsy Bouncy
Designer Gary Tsang channeled pure energy and optimism into his Spring/Summer 2026 collection. Inspired by the concept of bouncing, “Pulsy Bouncy” translated resilience and dynamic motion into a striking fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. The result was a sporty, futuristic streetwear collection that championed bold self-expression and fluidity.
IP AXIS INDUSTRIAL STUDIO: Relics from a Near Future
Max Tsang looked to the silver screen for inspiration, drawing from the character Maya in the film The Creator. His “Relics from a Near Future” collection explored the journey of a solitary figure navigating a post-apocalyptic world. Stonewashed and abraded textures evoked the erosion of time, while functional cuts met the demands of movement, defining a new aesthetic for a fractured future.
selfFab.: Hybridized Armour: Cultural Codes Reconstructed
Menu Tsai of selfFab. deconstructed and reinvented cultural codes, drawing inspiration from military tailoring, football kits, and court silhouettes. The collection reimagined these elements into bold, oversized forms, patchworking camouflage and jerseys into a modern armour. It offered a powerful new means of expression for a generation grappling with fragmented identities.
A Global Gathering of Style
Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), this year’s CENTRESTAGE is its most international yet. The event has brought together over 260 brands from 25 countries and regions, solidifying its position as a must-attend event on the global fashion calendar.
Held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event runs until September 6 and is open to both trade professionals and the public with free admission. CENTRESTAGE is held concurrently with the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair and Salon de TE, creating a unique convergence of apparel and timepieces for visitors to explore.
