China Unicom Beijing and Huawei have launched the world’s first large-scale integrated 5G-Advanced intelligent network, setting a groundbreaking benchmark for global connectivity. Announced during the event “5G Capital on the Way – Lighting Up Beijing with 5G-Advanced,” this initiative promises to transform digital experiences and drive industry innovation across Beijing.

Ultra-Large-Scale 5G-Advanced Network Transforms Beijing

The ultra-large-scale 5G-Advanced three-component carrier (3CC) network now provides comprehensive connectivity for over 10 million residents. Spanning stadiums, schools, metro stations, commercial hubs, and residential areas, the network delivers full 5G coverage and 85% 5G-Advanced availability across Beijing’s 4th Ring Road and the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center. It supports next-generation services like immersive videos, UHD streaming, and cloud gaming.

Renovated 5G-Advanced phone booths throughout the city add functionality, allowing users to access navigation, ride-hailing, and emergency services with a single click, significantly enhancing urban convenience.

Workers’ Stadium: A 10-Gigabit 5G Innovation Hub

At the Workers’ Stadium, the world-leading high- and low-band integrated 5G-Advanced network delivers an unparalleled experience. Featuring 10-gigabit connectivity and multiple 5G-Advanced 3CC sites, the network achieves:

  • Downlink speeds of 11.2 Gbps for seamless streaming by up to 68,000 spectators.
  • Uplink speeds of 4 Gbps, supporting UHD compression and extended reality (XR) applications.

This innovation is empowering Internet of Vehicles (IoV) and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, demonstrating how 5G-Advanced technology can transform industries.

Driving Low-Altitude Economic Development at the Great Wall

In collaboration with the Beijing Yanqing District Government, China Unicom Beijing has deployed 10-gigabit 5G-Advanced base stations at the Great Wall scenic area, providing uninterrupted coverage for ground-level and low-altitude applications (below 300 meters). This network supports key scenarios such as:

  • Tourism management
  • Logistics and emergency rescue
  • Environmental protection

The initiative is boosting safety while fostering the development of the low-altitude economy in the region.

AI-Driven Operations Revolutionize 5G-Advanced Networks

Leveraging its intelligent operations platform, China Unicom Beijing has introduced an end-to-end self-provisioning process for 5G-Advanced sites, reducing deployment times from days to minutes. Powered by AI-driven optimization, this platform ensures:

  • Enhanced network performance and security
  • Seamless cyber protection with minimal manual intervention
  • Efficient cloud-edge collaboration

This innovation establishes Beijing as a global leader in smart 5G operations.

Industry Leaders on 5G-Advanced Impact

Yang Lifan, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom Beijing, emphasized: “Large bandwidth can quickly improve user experience. Only by providing 10-gigabit network capabilities can we guarantee a gigabit experience for all users.” He added, “With Huawei’s advanced technologies and our smart operations, we will deliver an even better network experience for Beijing users.”

Li Jie, President of Huawei’s 5G&LTE TDD Domain, remarked: “Huawei’s new 5G-AA solutions have helped China Unicom Beijing maintain its global leadership in 5G-Advanced network construction. Together, we are building inclusive and high-quality networks to seize more opportunities in the AI-powered mobile network era.”

Beijing Pioneers a 5G-Advanced Future

China Unicom Beijing and Huawei’s 5G-Advanced intelligent network represents a major leap forward for global connectivity. With ultra-fast speeds, AI-driven innovations, and transformative industry applications, Beijing is setting the stage for a digital revolution and solidifying its position as a global technology hub.
